A Word from The Chair……

Thanks to all of you who made the effort to come to the G-I-N conference in

Manchester in September! We had some great entertainment at the welcome

reception, a fantastic array of speakers and a wide range of working groups,

training events and workshops. We had the chance to explore some of

Manchester’s historical highlights in the Museum of Science and Industry,

including ‘Baby’, the first computer with a memory. We even had some

sunshine, in a city not famed for its weather!

The most important part of the conference was, in my view the people who

attended. The participants make the difference between a good conference and

a great conference. It’s the discussion and debate, the conversations over

coffee, and the building of networks that really generate success. In Manchester we saw all of those, facilitated

by digital questions in the plenaries and cemented on the dance floor after the conference dinner.

I hope everyone took away at least one new contact, one new idea, and felt inspired to carry on with the

challenge of developing and implementing guidelines.

From a personal perspective, it was stimulating to organise and great to have the opportunity to work with our

Scottish colleagues from SIGN in the planning. I hope you all enjoyed it!

I am delighted to be taking over as G-I-N Chair and I’m looking forward to working with the board in the coming

months. Our mission at G-I-N is: “To lead, strengthen and support collaboration in guideline development,

adaptation and implementation”. Since 2002, G-I-N has grown to over 100 membership organisations

representing over 50 countries, and to remain successful in the future we need to:

respond to the needs of guideline developing organisations

provide support and networking opportunities that can’t be readily obtained elsewhere

grow our offer to members, underpinned by a sound financial strategy

The G-I-N board is now turning its thoughts to next year’s conference in Adelaide and planning a year of

activities. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please contact us.

I look forward to seeing you there!
